Personal Reflection

further experiments with resins and pva glue this week.
using dissolvable fabric and machine stitch gave my linear drawings a
new aspect. these were then set into the aforementioned substances
to create a suspended image  - the embroidered line trapped in the material.
resin is a material that i definitely feel i do not want to work with - it it too
predictable in its texture. by this i do not mean it is necessarily a predictable
material to work with but i feel that when i see it, i know what it would feel like
to touch. this is something that i am trying to avoid, i would like the tactile quality
of my work to be unpredicted, new, a surprise, unexpected.
personally i feel the moulding silicone i used a few weeks ago gave
the perfect consistancy and texture however its blue colour was very
gaudy and unforgiving. this week i intend to research this media more
and hopefully source and locate a clear/transparent variant.

an afterthought: resin in a highly toxic substance that gives off awful fumes.
i found that both the pva and the moulding silicone that i have used were
non-toxic. this is another aspect which has swayed me away from using
resin within any further developments of work.
