Product Tutorial
SITE SPECIFIC: Take photos on location of potential site.
LOCATIONS: Manchester (Northern Quarter, Craft Centre). Leeds (Craft Centre) Huddersfield (Greenhead Park)
Incorporate local features – providing local imagery presented in an unfamiliar way – like how my photos are unrecognisable yet slightly familiar.
CERAMICS: Plaster of Paris, Mod Rock – readily available for quick tests.
Clare Gage, Emily Stubbs, Kristin Wicklund – ceramicists
COLOURS: Sympathetic to the environment, not too bright? Or do I want it to stand out/be noticeable and brash?
Reaction from the public – to question materiality, realise that the piece is made from durable ceramics not textiles. Recognising the environment in a new way – confused/hidden imagery within the piece may not be noticeable at first that it relates to the location.
Design Tutorial
Printed concrete- reacts with water/pollution to reveal something new when the city is raining etc.
Lace – could another fabric be used, what else is delicate that can be translated in ceramics that is not as obvious. Fur?
Print onto the surface of photographs – bleach them out etc. Use lace to print onto them.
Find a site ASAP: Does the history inform the piece? I.E. the Huddersfield textile industry?
Antony Gormley - clay heads made with children using natural clay in the area – when placed together different colours of the clay is noticeable. Can I takeobjects from the area to include into the piece? Stones from the park? Etc.
Collect materials and consider possibilities. Think about the information that the chosen materials transmit – is it relevant?
Complete an application form as if I were submitting a real proposal – regeneration funds?
